All Catholic ceremonies performed in Italy are religiously and civilly valid as they are recognized under Italian Law and consequently under EU law. For all other citizenships by having a catholic ceremony your wedding will also be religiously and civilly recognized by your country in most cases. There is usually no need for any additional ceremonies or paperwork. For those who have been divorced the divorce must be final for at least 300 days prior to the wedding day. Catholic ceremonies can also be preformed when only 1 of the couple is catholic.
