All Catholic ceremonies performed in Italy are religiously and civilly valid as they are recognized under Italian Law and consequently under EU law. For all other citizenships by having a catholic ceremony your wedding will also be religiously and civilly recognized by your country in most cases. There is usually no need for any additional ceremonies or paperwork. For those who have been divorced the divorce must be final for at least 300 days prior to the wedding day. Catholic ceremonies can also be preformed when only 1 of the couple is catholic.

Jewish ceremonies can be celebrated in a stunning orthodox synagogue in Venice or Florence or in a private villa under a chuppah. The location is dependent on the type of rabbi officiating. We work primarily with a rabbi, family friend of Adina Slye, owner of Italian Dream Events, who is based in the United States and travels to Italy in order to officiate your wedding. Jewish weddings are not legally valid unless performed in an Orthodox synagogue. However, we will work with you to have a civil ceremony in Italy so that your union is legally valid even if you have the ceremony poolside under a chuppah. We work with you to create a very special and memorable ceremony anywhere you wish in Italy. |

protestant & non-denominational |

Being a predominately Catholic country there are only a few churches that allow Protestant and Non-Denominational ceremonies. Most of time people seeking a religious ceremony, but not catholic, get married in their own country's town hall or have a civil ceremony in Italy upon arrival. You then can have a symbolically religious ceremony officiated by the celebrant of your own choosing at any location you choose. |
|
Symbolic ceremonies allow you to rid yourself of any traditions you want to ignore. A symbolic ceremony means you can have the exact and precise wedding of your dreams. Symbolic ceremonies can be held almost anywhere you can imagine and can be officiated in English the celebrant of your choosing (even a friend or family member can officiate). To legitimize your marriage you can either have a ceremony in your home country's town hall or we can organize the combination of civil ceremony in Italy and your symbolic wedding in Italy. |

Despite its strong link to the Catholic Church, Italy is quite open minded and many properties will welcome you and your partner for a symbolic ceremony! Civil partnerships are in discussions but face a long road ahead before being approved. However, you can marry in your own country/US State (if applicable) and turn to Italy for your gala celebration of your commitment to one another with a meaningful symbolic ceremony. |

Italian civil weddings take place in your local commune, and are conducted by the deputy mayor of the town. A civil wedding commune usually needs to be booked approximately 6 months in advance. For example, the more popular communes such as Florence, Siena, San Gimignano and Certaldo book up 6 months in advance and are closed on weekends. While EU citizens are not required to be in the country before the wedding date, we recommend you are in the country at least 2 days prior to the wedding day for you civil declaration (witnesses do not need to be present for this declaration). For US Citizens you must be in the country 4 days prior to the wedding day as your declaration must take place on a Tuesday or Thursday (subject to change).
